NATIVE NUDITY: A GIFT OR A CURSE?

Is there an international law that challanges NATIVE NUDITY?some tribes of Botswana, for example, who are accustomed to a degree of nudity are made to feel morally inferior by tourists who visit the country and photograph them for further commercial purposes. Their Cultural performances, and local wisdom are deemed jokes. These criminals of artists who study the nude native figures evoke erotic visions, and describe gross scenes of lovemaking ,foster incest, degradation of women dignity and rights. Embarassed

These cases i mensioned above have their similar more examples. These could be avoided if this country viewed good deeds as good matters, and evil deeds as bad things. Such tourist attractions should be banned and criminals have their visas cancelled for good.

Its a continuation of the same 'civilizing' influence that countless 'backwards' groups have felt over the centuries. It stems from the human inability to accept things that are different and will not end until the human species as we know it does.

Traditionally photographing native people has been taboo for them. They believed that if someone photographed them that that person stole part of their soul. So there is that element in it in the background, without really being aware of it in present time.

Thinking about this posting, I wonder what has happened to that old courtesy of asking permission to take a photograph of someone and showing respect, before taking it? Perhaps that is a key element missing in what must have happened in Botswana as well. Protocol features quite big, and common courtesy is always appreciated.

I also get annoyed when people plant themselves in a spot, like they did in Vancouver this last summer holidays, and take photographs left right and centre. It was for a Broadcasting Station and this team of photographer and person who was interviewing people were in Burrard Street. The same happened to me at Heathrow Airport where for the first time I got a little experience of what it must feel like to be hunted down by the papparazi. There was a show person coming through arrivals, and all of a sudden this pack of hounds with cameras en masse descending on whoever the poor celebrity was. The person did not look that familiar to me, but it felt quite scary with all the flashes going off and the photographers scurrying for position.
