Deportivo Quito ended a 40-year wait for a domestic title after clinching the Ecuadorian national championship in stunning fashion on Wednesday, with one round still to play this season.
The team from the Ecuadorian capital defeated Macara 2-1 in an exciting encounter.
Their goals were scored by Luis Saritama and Edwin Tenorio, while Jose Herrera pulled a goal back for Macara.
It was Deportivo Quito's 41st match of the season. They won 24 matches, drew 10 and lost 7. While they scored 66 goals and conceded 30.
Deportivo Quito accumulated their third national championship, since they joined the Ecuadorian First Division. They obtained their two other trophies back in 1964 and 1968.
Carlos Sevilla's side started off the season slowly, but the experience of 2002 World Cup veterans Geovanny Ibarra and Edwin Tenorio, as well as the goals of Martin Mandra and Ebelio Ordonez, allowed their dream to become reality.
The performances of Luis Fernando Saritama and Edwin Tenorio were also fundamental for their title triumph.
But after 40 years its fans still believing in Deportivo Quito, this third national championship is the best gift for this true team fans, they were convinced their team will be the next national championship year after year.
