A site with Moodle

Has anybody ever set up a site using the LMS Moodle as the basis of the site? If so, I'd like to get in touch with you for advice.

I'm thinking of doing some experimenting with this system with the eventual aim of setting up an online training agency, but the problem as ever is CAPITAL, so I need to do things on the cheap to begin with.

Has anybody tried to set up a server with moodle on it? I am thinking of doing it and want to know how difficult it would be. I want to do it for a class. I have extra computers and a network but don't have the $$ to get server space. My district is too difficult to work with on this one either. It would be easier to build a intranet and put my site on that then try to get space and clarence on the district net.

Anybody have any info?
