Uploading site, public_html folder and server question

sonam
I have hosted one site aproximatelly 500MB. Now, I am created new design but this templates workigng with different database in different way then before. They get images (few tousand) from images folder, too (like in old sistem), but also don't use the same sistem of DB. Now, if I want to replace old sistem with new sistem I need lot of work and customization. My idea is:
- upload a new site (with images, etc.) in folder e.g. "new_site"
- rename "public_html" folder in "old_site" folder
- rename "new_site" folder in "public_html" folder

First question is: If I just rename some folder in public_html did server recognise this like root folder and look in for main index page?

Second question is: If I copy/paste htaccess file from old public_html folder in new public_html folder did server accept it like in old one?

renaming the dir and moving the htaccess file shouldn't be a problem. You have to make sure the name of the new dir is exactly the same as the old dir, but that's all.

Ah, great! Thanks, rvec. In that case I cannot worry about customer message "The site is in updating process" because switching will done in few second. Wink
